Its just not an ordinary Thursday night in Bradford, its a Thursday night when Phoenix Scooter Club Bradford meet. The Hare and Hounds is the venue this has been their meeting place for nearly 2 years now. The club formed in Feb 2009 after the breakup of the 606 scooter club of which some of the phoenix were members (the rest of the 606 pursued different scootering interests). At an informal meeting the guys wanted to form another club they couldn’t decide on a name, Harry new a guy from the old days, Craig who was in a scooter club of the same name(phoenix), so he tracked him down and he was invited down to the club for a few beers, Craig was no 1 of the old Phoenix scooter club which was formed in 1976, and Craig recalls it disbanded in the early 80s.Ian and Harry asked Craig if it would be ok to use the name of his old club which he replied yes and from that Craig went out and got himself a scooter and joined them, the Phoenix Scooter Club Bradford was formed.
Phoenix Scooter Club Bradford have 20 members at present and 36 scooters between them, even some of their wife’s have got scooters and can be seen riding them on local multi meet nights and even some of the major rally’s. They have supported the YSA at the allied invasion and the Yorkshire invasion. this year they hosted a YSA rideout with Baildon Scooter Club which was a great day out and well attended, you will also see them on the National scooter rally’s and nearly all the local events in the area.
Those of you who have been in to scootering for the last 20 years will remember Lens of Shipley Sid worked at lens from 1985 till 1990 and Harry worked there from 1986 till 1987 Harry also collects scooter patches he has a large collection and is always on the lookout for them patches that are just taking up space.
PHOENIX BRADFORD 1ST ANNIVERSARY BASH - 13TH FEBRUARY 2010 This year they celebrated at The Central Division Club for Bradford Phoenix S.C first anniversary bash it was going to be a belter of a night as folks were already enjoying the tunes. We were greeted by some of Phoenix Bradford members on the door, had a quick natter with them and walked up the stairs to the function room (which were illuminated like an airport runway and nearly blinded you) and the place was packed to the rafters. The DJ's for the night were pumping out the usual scooterists classics from all eras and folks danced and enjoyed the music. The band for the night was The Syndicate, if you've never seen them I recommend you try get to one of their gigs as they were fantastic. Playing a good mix of scooter tunes and staying on stage for longer than expected they kept the dance floor full all night and I think nearly everyone was on the floor at one stage All in all I can honestly say that for a first anniversary bash it was tops and next year lads and lasses you might need a bigger venue!! (Shello)
They will be hosting there 2nd anniversary bash 12 th Feb 2011 at The Central Division Club. They will be 2 rooms, the main room playing all the usual scooter tunes and the second a soul room. Band to be confirmed watch this space. If you have an interest in scooters why not pop down to the Hare and Hounds Great Horton Road Bradford on a Thursday night,Or if you fancy going out on a weekend for a drink, they will be up for that too. all welcome.
